Twenty-six students have gradauted from the D.O. Ph.D. Program since its beginning in 1979. In 1986 Dr. Veronica M. Maher, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies in COM, took over the directorship of the Program. Dr. Maher shares the responsibilities of the position with Dr. J. Justin McCormick, who is the Associate Dean for Research in COM.

An D.O. Ph.D. Program Advisory Committee assists the program director in recruiting, admissions, supervision and monitoring of trainees.

Mentors for D.O. Ph.D. Program trainees are restricted to faculty members who have substantial peer-reviewed extramural research grants. This guarantees that trainees will be associated with mentors who are recognized by their national peers for outstanding research.
